About Us

Welcome to the web page, this site aims to provide information regarding The Garden Village Society located in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire.

Garden Village is a very unique part of East Hull and to have such an “oasis of green” so close to the city centre is indeed something worth keeping. Created by James Reckitt in 1907, further information about the founding of Garden Village can be found here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Garden_Village,_Kingston_upon_Hull

It was with protecting this historic area in mind that The Garden Village was designated as the City’s first Conservation Area on 15thOctober 1970.

The society was formed in 1973 in response to building in the village not in keeping with the style or spirit in which it was founded. When founded the membership was in excess of 100 residents, there are over 750 houses within Garden Village and we are always on the look out for more residents to be involved and join the society and assist us in our endeavours.

As the executive committee of the society, we try to keep this special area as you would like it to be kept in the spirit of its founder James Reckitt who created this green enclave within East Hull. The many positive effects of living in a green space have been documented in several studies and this is part of what motivates us to strive to preserve the overall feel of the village:

Our mission is to preserve this historic & unique green enclave in East Hull for future generations & current residents alike.
